I have five yoga pants, three sports bras, ten sweatbands, two puffer vests, and only my credit card knows how many leggings. You think I'm a gym rat and a health nut, right? Not in the slightest. Shopping is my cardio, and the only weights I lift are shopping bags with more workout apparel.
I live in active wear. It's relatively cheap, easy to wash, quick drying, odor resistant, doesn't need ironing, but most importantly, it's sooooo comfy! Plus, wearing clothing meant for working out makes me feel healthy and fit, even if I'm not. I don't necessarily want to lead a healthy lifestyle, but I sure want other to think I do.
Donning workout gear is also a perfect excuse for not wearing make up or washing your hair as often. If this slovenly look is complemented by a pair of designer sweatpants and New Balance sneakers people will assume you've just been to the gym (when in fact you've been eating chips straight out of the bag while sprawled on the couch watching “Friends” reruns).
People like comfort, and the fashion industry is finally catching on. Sportswear used to be baggy and dull, but now all the premium brands are creating performance wear you want to be seen in even when you're not sweating on a treadmill or on a yoga mat. It's the new trend now, called “ athleisure look.” As the name suggests, you no longer have to be active to enjoy athletic wear. I don't know about you, but I'm on board.
