English for Travelling. What to Do at the Airport
How do you feel when you are at the airport, when you see a lot of people running anywhere? Are you confused? Or maybe frightened? Let's add to all these emotions the fact that you are in a foreign country and don't speak the language well. How to ask for help? How to ask about a departure or an arrival and get necessary information?
This podcast is here to help you with better orientation at the airport and to give you almost all necessary phrases which you can hear or need to say being at the airport.
First of all, you should check in. Check-ins for international flights begin two hours before departure. All passengers go to the indicated check-in counter, give their passports and weigh their bags. They leave their luggage at the check-in counter. On board you can take only a small bag with called a carry-on luggage or a carry-on.
After all that the passengers get boarding passes, which you need to show while boarding.
Questions that can be asked at the check-in counter:
• May I see your ticket and passport, please?

Yes, here it is.

• How many bags are you checking in?

Later all tourists go through security check and put their carry-on luggage through the x-ray machine. It is forbidden to take knives, aerosols, and liquids of more than 100 ml on board of a plane.
Phrases you can hear at the security check:
• Get your laptop out of your bag, please.
Достаньте ноутбук из сумки, пожалуйста.
• Take out all metallic items and put them into this tray.
Снимите все металлические предметы и положите их в лоток.
• You cannot take this much liquid on the plane.

After all these things you can go to a departure lounge where you wait for your flight. Here you can find a lot of cafes and duty-free shops where people usually eat and buy some presents, souvenirs, alcohol and cosmetics.
When your time of going on board is coming, you may have some questions, for example:
• Could you tell me how to get to this terminal?

When you arrive to another country firstly you should go through the passport control and the customs. You may have some questions or should answer some:
