I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but milk does not help your bones get stronger and orange juice (which is bought at the store) is almost as unhealthy as soda. Don't believe me? First let's talk about OJ. Tropicana is one of the biggest suppliers of OJ in the USA and as an American I can tell you that it tastes delicious. Here is the problem and if you don't believe me check Tropicana's website because it is stated there: 8 ounces of Tropicana orange juice contains 22 grams of sugar. That is almost as much as a Pepsi, which actually makes sense because TROPICANA IS OWNED BY PEPSI! The reason OJ is loaded with sugar is simple: it has a very short shelf-life, so to extend it, the manufacturer sucks all of the oxygen out of the OJ. But when that happens, the entire flavor goes away as well. To compensate, they then pump the OJ full of sugar and orange byproducts to give it that great taste. So, if you really enjoy OJ and want to be healthy, then make it naturally by squeezing the juice out yourself and do not buy OJ at the store.
It is now time to discuss the milk controversy. According to Dr. Alissa Hamilton, milk is not the wonder food that we once believed it to be. In fact, one glass of milk has 13 grams of naturally occurring sugars! Yes, milk contains calcium, but calcium is everywhere, especially in dried herbs such as mint, parsley, and basil. So if you stopped drinking milk today, nothing bad would happen to your body and it certainly would not be an unhealthy choice.
