As much as it displeases me to say, networking is a highly important, actually a necessity when it comes to looking for a good occupation. To me it seems unfair because the only reason you get a job nowadays is knowing the right people. So that college degree is not as important as you once believed. But you can either cry about it or take action. I choose to take action.
The most important reason for networking is this: if the boss of a company does not know you but you know someone at that company, he or she can put a good word in for you to the boss. An example is this: He told me that he has four years of experience. Another example: She does have a master's degree. Also, networking can make you happier if you are a social person. You can make new friends by networking. Also, networking can open the door to the world for you. By networking, you can get invited to special events, you can discover new companies that are hiring, meet influential people, and get you name more well-known in your field of work. The bottom line is: if you want to be more successful in your career, you must find time to do networking, or you will have a hard time looking for employment or getting your name out there.
